You can no longer access your router's user interface using the IP address 192.168.0.1, 192.168.178.1, or 192.168.2.1? Changing passwords, setting up guest Wi-Fi, and adjusting settings are currently not possible? Here's what you can do and how the emergency IP 169.254.1.1 can help in urgent situations.

Enter URL instead of IP

If you can't access your router's user interface with the IP 192.168.0.1, 192.168.178.1, or 192.168.2.1, for example, on your Vodafone Station (Arris TG3442DE or Technicolor CGA4233DE) or EasyBox 804/805, try entering the URL instead of the IP address. Use http://kabel.box for Vodafone routers, http://fritz.box for FRITZ!Box, and http://easy.box for Easybox.

LAN connection with a network Ethernet cable

If you're experiencing a Wi-Fi disruption, you may not be able to access the router menu with your IP. Check if there's a problem using our network map. If not, try establishing a LAN connection with an Ethernet network cable between your device and router, then attempt to access the user interface again.

Restart helps if something is stuck

It's possible that something is stuck. Perform a router restart: Unplug the power cord (to completely shut down your router), wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Wait until your router LEDs turn green and the connection is re-established.

Active firewall or parental control software preventing access

If using a LAN cable and restarting didn't work, you might be using a firewall or parental control software, or both. These programs can partially or completely restrict access with your IP. Try deactivating or uninstalling the software, then turn it back on or reinstall it.

Start from scratch with a router reset

You can also reset your router to factory settings. You'll need a paperclip, your router logins, and a new password. For the password, use at least 8 characters, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

Extra tip for FRITZ!Boxes: the emergency IP 169.254.1.1

Access your FRITZ!Box user interface via http://fritz.box or by entering your IP address (factory setting is http://192.168.178.1). If you've forgotten your IP address or the standard IP doesn't work, try the emergency IP, which is the same for all FRITZ!Box models: 169.254.1.1.

Quick explanation: Structure of your IP address

An IP address is similar to your home address, consisting of a street name and house number. An IP consists of a network ID and a host ID. For 192.168.1.1, 192.168.1 is the network ID, and the final 1 is the host ID. The network ID indicates the network the device is on, while the host ID refers to the specific device.
