Left Germany - Last Incorrect Bill

Hello everyone,

I left Germany over three months ago. When I called to cancel, I was told that I would still have to pay three months of bills. I agreed and thought everything was okay. I would have to pay for February, March, and April.

However, I was billed (I believe incorrectly) for one day in May. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I closed my German bank account at the end of April, so I cannot pay the 74 cents that the bill was and now have a chargeback fee on my account.

I also cannot figure out how to call Vodafone from an American based phone to sort this out.

So essentially, I believe that I shouldn't have been charged for 1 day in May and it is leading to a lot of problems and I just want my account closed out.

The reason for this may be that your billing month may not be identical to the calendar month.  In your case it could be that the billing month was from the 2nd of every month to the 1st of the following.  That would also explain why you were charged for a single day in May.

You might want to check on your invoice documents, quite at the top it should say "Abrechnungszeitraum" (i.e. billing period) and the respective date(s).

As for contacting Vodafone from abroad, the number of choice is the +49 172 12 172 12 (charges may apply according to the price list of to your local operator).  Or you could use the contact form.

My bills previously have always shown the statement period from the first of the month until the end of the month.

I have tried calling that number - however I am unable to navigate the menus because they are all in German.

I also just tried filling out the contact form, however I am getting stuck on the fields:

Kundennummer DSL&Festnetz

Kunden- oder Teilnehmerkennwort

I already logged in with my Vodafone password. So I do not know what these fields are.

This seems to be a lot of work to get 0,74 cents. I just wish someone could contact me and they would waive the fees especially considering that I no longer have a German bank account.

Hi Andrew_Meagher,

Kundennummer is your customer number. It should start with 0019 and you will find it on every letter and e-mail we have sent to you.

Kundenkennwort is your personal customer password. You have chosen it by yourself when you have ordered the DSL connection.

If the direct debit wasn't successfull you can transfer the open amount to our bank account. You can find it on your invoice.

Regards,

Jens

Hey Jens, thanks for that information, but I have no clue what my Kindenkennwort is. I set up the account 9 months ago and haven’t used it until now. It still doesn’t answer the question of why I even have to pay for 1 day when I already paid the 3 months after leaving the country.

And it isn’t as simple as doing a direct debit as I have no European bank account.

Hi Andrew_Meagher,

as @Der Ritter already mentioned you can find the exact date until which the contract has been charged on your invoice.

Its normal that your bill cycle is not from the first to the last day of each month.

Regards,

Jens

Hey Jens,

My contract was canceled because I left the country. I was told I would need to pay 3 months because that is the policy of Vodafone. I paid 3 months for February, March, and April. My bank account was then closed. Then all of a sudden Vodafone decided to charge me for one day in May for 0,74 cents and now I have a chargeback fee.

Can’t my account just be closed and the fee waived. It is going to take a lot more work on both ends to get you the 0,74 cents or for me to open a ticket because I’ve been mischarged by one day.

Is there an actual number I can call or an email address I can reach out to. It’s ridiculous to me that the only way I am able to deal with this issue is through a forum post.

Hi Andrew_Meagher,

please send me a private message with your customernumber.

Therefore please click on my name/avatar then on the right side "Diesem Benutzer eine private Nachricht senden".
Though i feel that the invoice is correct - i will have a closer look into this.

Even if its a marginal amount, invoices still have to be paid.

I will check if i can make an adjustment as a sign of goodwill - but i can't promise that i will do so.

Best regards,
Andre ^and

Well, how about you don't only ask other users/customers for support, but also read their replies you get?

Der Ritter, obviously you didn't read my prior messages.

I stated that I called that number however my German isn't good enough to navigate those menus and I just end up getting stuck.

I also started filling out the contact form - but have no idea what the second password I need to fill out is because I apparently picked it 10 months ago when I signed up for Vodafone. I know my customer number and my online user name and password, but I do not know my Kundenkennwort
