You have lost a loved one. Our heartfelt condolences!

Maybe you also want to know about the legal situation in the case of death – and how you can cancel as a bereaved relative? In principle, everyday life contracts are inherited after death. As a bereaved heir, you can decide whether to cancel or take over the contract. In both cases, we want to make it as easy as possible for you.

How to cancel the contract of a deceased relative

Do you want to cancel the mobile, internet, landline, or TV contract of a deceased person? In the case of death, you, as the bereaved and entitled person, have a special right of termination. You can cancel the contract at the earliest possible date.

You have 3 options for this:

  1. You can cancel by letter or fax.
  2. You can fill out our digital cancellation form. (German only - use the translation function of your browser)
  3. You can use our chatbot TOBi. (German only)

How to cancel by letter or fax:

  • Send us your cancellation. Here you will find the appropriate mailing address and fax number depending on the type of contract and address.
  • Please state that it is a contract termination for a deceased person.
  • Note the customer number of the deceased person.
  • Attach a document that confirms the death of your relative: e.g., a copy of the death certificate
  • You can also use our digital cancellation form.

How to cancel via our form:

  • Enter your data.
  • Provide all details regarding your cancellation.
  • Then enter the security code.
  • Submit your cancellation.

If you do not have the customer number and/or contract number at hand, no problem! We will contact you. Just leave the fields blank.

How to take over the contract as a surviving relative

Do you want to take over the contracts of your relative? And everything should continue as before?

This is also possible – under these conditions:

  • Your contract partner is deceased.
  • You will then be the sole contract partner. Please provide the death certificate.
  • You are a family member or life partner.
  • The contract continues for the same address.

You have 2 options for taking over the contract:

  1. You fill out our digital form. (German only - use the translation function of your browser)
  2. You ask our digital assistant TOBi. (German only)

How it works online:

  • Click here and choose the technology.
  • Then choose the state you live in.
  • Select death (Sterbefall) & take over.
  • Fill out the attached form.
  • Submit.

The contract takeover can take up to 2 weeks. There may be costs associated with the takeover: For example, you pay a one-time fee of 20 euros when taking over a mobile phone contract. The email address of the deceased person will be deleted during the takeover.

If you change your mind, you can exercise your 14-day right of withdrawal.
