Router change

Hey, so i wanted to change my router to a gaming router like asus ax3000 or something with wifi 6 and all. i wanted to ask if i can just plug that new router where i have plugged my vodafone router? would it work or do i have connect the new router with the already existing router? i have cable internet 1000MB.

the Asus router does not have an integrated cable modem, therefore you have to use the Asus behind the Vodafone Station or buy a cable router with integrated modem, Fritzbox 6690 for example
