Hello all,
For the last month or so, in the evenings (approx 19:00-24:00), my Internet connection is frustratingly slow.
During other times of the day, I get the advertised bandwidth along with negligible packet loss and low latencies. Every day, early evening, the connection starts to deteriorate, and around 21:00 I usually have pings (RTT) of 300+ ms (compared to e.g. a 40-50 ms baseline other times of the day), packet loss of over 20%, and download bandwidth of 15-20 mbps. (upload also slow, low single digit megabits)
Not only is this not enough for video conferencing, due to the packet loss, even VOIP is barely usable.
Real time gaming or streaming a movie is also out of the question in the evenings...
This is in Berlin btw.
My contract is for "Red Internet & Phone 400 Cable".
The modem is a Compal CH7466CE.
Certainly evenings are peak times, and looking at the dozens of similar issues in the forums, I can only conclude that Vodafone's network is overloaded. I am unsure if it is the last mile trunks, or some more internal part of the infrastructure but I am not hopeful that this gets resolved quickly.
What I would like to know is
- whether an upgrade to a business plan (e.g. "Red Business Internet & Phone 1000 Cable") would give my traffic priority
- whether this upgrade can be done without disruption to the connection (would not want to be left without Internet for days)
Thanks.
