Hey team,
I just made new contract with vodafone. I used my old router fritzbox 6490 and didn't get one from vodafone.
Vodafone sent me Dosenaufsatz and registration code. I am trying to set up fritzbox but green lights keep on blinking.
I tried 3 times at different location in my house where cable connection was available. But none of them worked.
Can you guide me please further, how to ensure problem is in router or connection itself?

It depends on what you ordered and what the old FritzBox is...
If the old FritzBox was a rental device, then there's no chance to get it set up running with your new connection - you were required to sent the box back... Only retail boxes (with Article Number 2000 2778 in case of the 6490) can be used again...
Next one: If you opted for a Gigabit line, then your Box is incompatible - the 6490 is only compatible with line speeds up to 500 MBit/s.
And lastly: In some areas you may have to set up an additional TV contract with a local supplier that will also connect the coax line.

If the lights keep blinking and the FritzBox never comes online, it may not be receiving a cable signal from Vodafone yet, or the router hasn't been activated correctly. I'd first check whether the 6490 is supported on your Vodafone connection and whether the router's MAC address has been registered with Vodafone. If activation is complete and the lights still keep blinking after 15–20 minutes, it could point to a signal issue rather than a router problem. Can you access the 192.168.178.1 interface and check the cable status or event log? That would help determine whether the router is seeing a signal at all.

I don't think that will help the user after more than three years. I am closing this old thread here.
