Moved Abroad - Still Being Charged

Hello,

 

I moved abroad at the end of December - I sent Vodafone my Abmeldung as proof. However I have still been charged this month, even though the stickied post at the top of this forum says that the contract will be cancelled within 30 days of reporting the move. I was notified of receipt on the 29th of December - however I have still been charged for February, and there's no clear indication of when the contract will be fully terminated.

In which federal state was the connection? Where did you send the deregistration certificate as proof of relocation?

Hi Torsten,

 

The connection was in Hessen - and I sent the deregistration certificate as proof of relocation to kundenservice@unitymedia.de, which is the address I was told to send to by a Vodafone rep on the phone.

 

I received a letter saying that my contract will be terminated - it is currently in my online inbox on this Vodafone account. However it does not appear to be cancelled yet.

It is correct that you have a notice period of 1 month from the date of the relocation notification since December 1st, 2021 if you are not available at the new place of residence. However, if you have canceled before then, the period is 3 months. Please be patient until a VFW mod clicks in here, they have system access and can help directly.

I looked in your customer account and there is a termination date of 21.03.2022.

 

Since you left Germany on 21.12.2021, you still have to pay for another 3 months according to current regulations.

 

Therefore, the termination was entered on this date.

Note: According to the law, we are obliged to terminate the contract only after 3 months, even in the case of special termination.

Excerpt from §46 paragraph 8 TKG:

"[...] entitled to terminate the contract at the end of a calendar month subject to a notice period of three months. In any case, the provider of the publicly available telecommunications service is obliged to inform the provider of the public telecommunications network of the consumer's move out without delay if the provider of the publicly available telecommunications service has become aware of the consumer's move. [...]"
