About my situation:

1. I am a US citizen and came to Germany (44623 Herne, NRW) to work in November 2024.

2. Unfortunately, my professional situation has not developed as I had hoped, and I will now be returning to the USA permanently.

3. I would therefore like to cancel my Vodafone cable internet contract and my mobile SIM card because I am leaving the country.

Ich hoffe, dass mir jemand – vielleicht auch ein Vodafone-Mitarbeiter – weiterhelfen kann.

Zu meiner Situation:

1. Ich bin US-Staatsbürger und bin im November 2024 nach Deutschland (Herne, NRW) gekommen, um hier zu arbeiten.

2. Leider hat sich die berufliche Situation nicht wie erhofft entwickelt, und ich werde nun dauerhaft in die USA zurückkehren.

3. Ich möchte daher meinen Vodafone Kabel-Internetvertrag sowie meine Mobilfunk-SIM-Karte kündigen, da ich das Land verlasse.

4. Ich bemühe mich derzeit um einen Abmeldetermin (Abmeldung bei der Stadt), finde aber keinen verfügbaren Termin vor meiner Abreise.

5. Ich habe jedoch bereits meine Flugtickets als Nachweis für meine Ausreise aus Deutschland.

Your flight tickets are no valid proof that you are leaving Germany permanently - you will have to provide official proof of deregistration. Without any proof, your cancellation request will be handled as it would be a regular cancellation to the end of the minimum contractual term (usually 24 months).

And you will have to pay additional fees for leaving early - in accordance to the telecommunications act, you will have to pay (at least) another monthly base fee after leaving Germany, depending on the date your proof was received and you left Germany.

Please note that there might be additional fees arising to pay all outstanding costs for a mobile phone if you opted to buy one together with the SIM card.

Anyhow - SIM cards don't need to be returned to Vodafone; yet the rental router has to be returned to Vodafone by post -- a return at your local store is NOT possible!
