I want to terminate or cancel my Vodaphone internet contract.

Hello,

I’ve had an internet contract with Vodafone for over a year now, and I’d been paying around 62.99 Euros monthly. Realizing that I don’t need such a high plan, I decided to downgrade. When I visited the Vodafone store earlier this year, the Vodafone store guy mentioned that if I came back in September, I could switch to a lower plan for 27.99 Euros. That sounded reasonable to me, so I waited.

In September, I returned to the store, and after a call with Vodafone, the Vodafone store guy confirmed that for September, I'd need to pay 47.99 Euros, but starting in October, my bill would drop to 27.99 Euros. I agreed and left, expecting the changes to take effect.

However, in October, I was still charged the higher amount. Frustrated, I decided to cancel my contract. I tried the online termination option, only to receive a PDF stating that my contract wouldn’t be canceled until September 2026. Following this, I visited two different Vodafone shops; one representative just told me to visit another store, while the second one said to wait for an email from Vodafone.

I then discovered an online “Retour” option, which I completed, and I received a DHL return code to send the box back.

It seems that many people who don’t speak German fluently face similar issues, often being misled or struggling to navigate contract changes and cancellations.

At this point, I’m unsure of the best way to proceed. I feel misled by the Vodafone store guy, and I simply want to get my contract canceled. Any advice on how I can resolve this situation effectively would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

"There is no right of cancellation for contracts concluded in specialist stores or a Vodafone shop."

Most of the stores are not operated by Vodafone but by independent agencies which make their money by selling contracts, therefore they are not part of the Vodafone support system. Sadly there always are some black sheep around, not caring about customer satisfaction but only about milking them for the highest provision - people who not speak German that well are easy victims, they should never just sign a contract without anyone who really understands what’s written. The problem now ist that something was changed about your contract, which always restarts the 24 month minimum term, that’s why your new earliest date for termination is September 26. The much bigger problem is that you did all that in a local store, that’s why you don’t have the 14 days revocation right which you would have had if you did it online or via phone (though these 14 days would be long over now anyways). Legally you are stuck now, you can only try to contact Vodafone, hoping to work out something as gesture of goodwill. For support in English use WhatsApp, ask for a Kundenberater repeatedly until the bit forwards you to a human agent. Then responses can take time, it is no live chat and requests are worked on in chronological order:
