Cannot connect to Game Server

Hi,

I'm sorry my German is not good enough to post in German so I'm sorry for that already...

Since I have connected to the Vodafone service I have problems connecting to a game server I'm using.

I am playing Star Wars Galaxies (yes the old 2000 game Smiley (zwinkernd)).

I'm a developper for a private server and I'm trying to connect to help but unfortunately I am unable to connect to the live server.

I've tried with 3 different computers and the problem happens on all three - So it's not a firewall configuration.

I've tried on other game server (of the same game) and I can connect properly.

The 3 servers I'm using are:

  • login.swgsremu.com (faulty)
  • tc.swgsremu.com
  • login.swgemu.com

All 3 of them uses the same communication protocols, so it's not related to that either. There is something - For whatever reasons, I am not able to connect to the first one (login.swgsremu.com) all the other ones are instantly connected.

I've talked with the team of the game and there is no special configuration on there side... But the first and second listed above is from the same team and the tc.swgsremu.com works great without any errors.

What is my best option to get this fixed?

Hi @ERFD ,

Sorry for not coming back earlier... I started facing more problems on my Vodafone Station around the same time, and I had to contact the support twice by phone. (My WIFI connections were completely resetting every few days and I had to restart the device everytime)

I spoke with 2 different agents, and the second one, seemed to .... FINALLY be knowledgeable ;o).

Being a technician my self we could do more extensive testing over the phone and after being able to bring some light to the person on the phone, as far as I understood, he started looking into my configurations and he said to have found something and changed a few things.

Since then things seems a lot smoother / better 🐵

Thanks a lot everyone for all your time and support ;o)

I just opened a new thread about Bridge / Requiring and IPv4 address and possible FritzBox modification

Hello Firador,

do you have a DSL or cable connection? What is your postal code? Do you get an error message? Please make a Pingplotter for each server and send the result as a screenshot. Use a direct ethernet connection and an interval of 2.5 seconds.

Kind regards,

Claudia

Hi Claudia,

Thanks for answering!!

I work in IT (Server Admin) so I already did loads of tests.

I have a cable connection, 85375 for my postal code.

Pings don't seem to have any issues. I can run a pingplotter in about 2 weeks (As I am on holiday now). But I made loads of tests already related to pings and they work.

I play the game in 2 different ways.

1 in text mode and 1 in full game mode.

The text mode is a simple Node.JS server running in text mode to make a link between the game chat and Discord (discord the chat app for gamers.

Even this simple connection has problems to go through. But once the connection is made it stays connected. If you disconnect then it can take up to 20 minutes to be able to recreate the connection. And it really is only for 1 server. Which is where I find it weird.

What is sad is that I help developing that game server and not being able to connect makes it really difficult.

Thanks for your time!!

Hello Firador,

we would like to have a look at it. Please leave us a latency test with route to the affected server and one of the servers where it works via IPv4 and IPv6. We like to have a look at it.

Best regards Fred
