Unstable Cable Internet – High Latency and Packet Loss on Vodafone Nodes

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing ongoing issues with my Vodafone cable internet connection in Munich. The connection often becomes unstable: short disconnections, high latency, or slow page loads, especially during the day and evening.

I am using the standard Vodafone router (provided by Vodafone) and have not made any custom network configurations. My local network (Wi-Fi and router) is stable and shows no issues.

To investigate further, I’ve been running continuous traceroute tests to 8.8.8.8 over several hours. The logs show consistent issues starting from the first Vodafone node:

  • ip53a9b77e.static.kabel-deutschland.de (83.169.183.126)

  • Followed by 88.134.203.111 and 145.254.x.x nodes

I often see latency spikes up to 100ms or more, and in some cases packet loss. The problem clearly starts within Vodafone’s infrastructure.

Since I work from home, a stable and reliable internet connection is critical for me.
I've contacted support, but I’m also posting here hoping someone from the Vodafone team or the community can assist further.

I have full traceroute logs and am happy to share them.

ich habe seit einiger Zeit Probleme mit meiner Vodafone-Kabelverbindung in München. Die Verbindung wird oft instabil: kurze Aussetzer, hohe Latenzen oder sehr langsame Ladezeiten – vor allem tagsüber und abends.

Ich verwende den Standardrouter von Vodafone (vom Anbieter bereitgestellt) und habe keine besonderen Änderungen an meinem Heimnetzwerk vorgenommen. Das lokale Netzwerk (WLAN, Router) funktioniert stabil und fehlerfrei.

Zur Analyse habe ich über mehrere Stunden regelmäßig Traceroute-Tests zu 8.8.8.8 durchgeführt. In den Logs zeigen sich wiederkehrende Probleme ab dem ersten Vodafone-Knoten:

  • ip53a9b77e.static.kabel-deutschland.de (83.169.183.126)

  • sowie 88.134.203.111 und 145.254.x.x

Teilweise treten Latenzspitzen über 100 ms sowie Paketverluste auf. Die Probleme beginnen eindeutig innerhalb der Vodafone-Infrastruktur.

Da ich von zu Hause aus arbeite, ist eine stabile Internetverbindung für mich unverzichtbar.
Ich habe bereits den Kundenservice kontaktiert, poste das Thema aber zusätzlich hier – in der Hoffnung auf Unterstützung vom Vodafone-Team oder aus der Community.

Bei Bedarf kann ich die vollständigen Traceroute-Logs zur Verfügung stellen.

As there is nothing said in your contract about any Latency or Jitter, nobody will be able to help you.

I have problem with Vodafone Internet since December 2024. 
3 Technician was here, we called Call Centre several time and they do nothing! Every time when we call, the Operator say: "ok, we will open Ticket and  fix it by Monday." 
4 Monats later I´m still waiting for that Monday.

That's too bad....I experience connection loss almost every single day during Teams or Zoom audio calls. I have no idea how to fix it. And I can’t cancel the contract to switch to another provider...

Actually, it’s quite simple. As I did, you can issue a special termination (Sonderkündigung) to Vodafone for failing to fulfill their obligations. Under the German Telecommunications Act (Telekommunikationsgesetz, TKG), if you believe they are not complying with the legal requirements here, sending them a registered letter (Einschreiben) will definitely resolve the issue.

In this situation, you are neither the first nor will you be the last person to be victimized.

So what does Telekommunikationsgesetz, TKG say in this case?
