moving out of germany - contract cancellation

Hi

I am currently a vodafone internet customer (cable). I have a plan to move out of Germany ( going back to my own country permanently) tentatively by 31st August, 2026.

In this regard, I would like to understand what steps or actions do I need to take and when to inform vodafone about my move out. 

Can you please advice the detail procedures.

Depending on the status of your contract there are different ways. If you already are out of the 2 year minimum contract term you can simply cancel the contract with 1 month notice. If you are still within these 2 years you will have to report a move. Vodafone will check if the contract can be used at your new location and if not will terminate it by themselves. With you moving out of Germany that will happen, though you will have to provide proof of your move with the official deregistration certificate. In both cases don‘t forget to send back any Vodafone hardware.

great that you are reaching out early. If you are leaving Germany permanently around 31 August 2026, you can cancel your Vodafone cable contract early due to a special termination right, since the service cannot be used abroad.

Here is how we recommend you proceed:

First, inform us as early as possible about your planned move. Ideally, notify us a few weeks before your move out date.

For the cancellation, we usually need proof that you are leaving Germany permanently. This can be for example:

• deregistration certificate from the local authorities
• confirmation of your move abroad
• a work contract or rental agreement in your new country

Once we receive your cancellation request together with the proof, we will review everything and confirm the termination date. In most cases, a remaining contract period of three months applies starting from the date we receive your documents.

Also important: If you have rented equipment like a router, you will receive instructions on how to return it after the cancellation.
