Contract Cancellation – Leaving Germany

Hey,

I will be leaving Germany in December and after looking through all the materials tied to the contract cancellation, I have more questions than answers.

Since the 3 months cancellation starts from the date of me moving out, I will have to pay for 3 months of using the internet, while not even being in the country anymore. Do I need to keep my bank account open for this, or can I simply pay all 3 months as I will be leaving the country?
When am I supposed to send the router back? All the information points to the direction that I have to do it after I receive the contract cancellation, which doesn't really help, because I will be abroad already and with no way of sending the router back.
Some clarification on the whole process would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Hello DavidS9,

I will be happy to answer your questions.

The best way to inform us of your move is to use our moving service. If we cannot continue to serve you at your new address, your contract will be terminated with 3 months' notice in accordance with the Telecommunications Act. The notice period starts on the day you notify us of your move. The basic fees will be charged until the date of termination. The cheapest way is to have them debited. You will also receive a final invoice at the end of the contract. You send your router back to us at the end of the contract. If you are already abroad, you can send it back to us earlier.

I hope that your question marks have disappeared a little. Please let me know what might still be open.

Best regards

Nancy

Hey Nancy,

Thank you for the information.

I have initiated the process, but I didn't receive any confirmation whatsoever.
Would it also be possible to charge me the remaining amount of money now, since I plan to close my German bank account?

Hi DavidS9,

it can take some time until you get all confirmations. Please be patient. Smiley (zwinkernd)

It is not possible to debit now all monthly fees that are due by the end of the contract in one sum. I'm sorry.

Regards

Stephan

Hey,

I see, so if understood it correctly, you will continue charging me after I leave the country, right?

What's going to happen, if I close my bank account, which is something I have to do, because I have to deregister before I leave the country?

Thank you.

Then you should change the bank details in MeinVodafone as soon as possible. If you stay in the SEPA area (i.e. in the EU), this is not a problem and the direct debit can remain. Otherwise you have to transfer the bills yourself. Please always take into account the significantly longer banking times.

Hey,
I am not staying in the SEPA area, so I will be transferring the bills myself, I guess.
Why can't I simply transfer the remaining sum at once?
I am sorry, I am just trying to understand, why is this impossible.

Hi DavidS9,

because you simply don't know in advance what your final bill will be.

You have a contract with monthly billing and as long as this is still running, there will also be a monthly bill.

Hey,

What do you mean by "you simply don't know in advance what your final bill will be"?
I pay 39,99€ per month now. I informed you in the middle of October that I am cancelling my contract, at that point the 3 months notice period starts. As such, I have to pay the bill for October, November and December. Since I will be leaving the country in December, I will just have to wire you 39,99€ for December and that should be it.

Unless I am wrong, in which case, please correct me.
