My phone is not listed at the Handy-Konfigurator

Hello y'all,

I just arrived in the US and I paid 10 euros for a service that should supposedly give me 500 MB during my stay. Unfortunately, I have no internet, my theory is that the APN of my phone is not configured correctly (the MCC is set to 262 and the MNC to 02, when I believe they are supposed to be 310 and 260, respectively). The problem is that my model is not listed on the Handy-Konfigurator webpage: https://www.vodafone.de/hilfe/handykonfigurator.html

My phone is a Xiaomi Redmi 5 plus. I have tried other models but then I don't get anything.

Kind regards,

Jorge

Hello JEchavarria,

Which APN is stored in the settings of your phone? Our APN is web.vodafone.de.

The device is not from vodafone, so i can`t help you in this regard, which affects other settings for APN. MCC and MNC is correct with 262 and 02.

Greetings

MajaT

Hello MajaT,

my APN is configured as follows:

Name: Vodafone Internet

APN: web.vodafone.de

MCC: 262

MNC: 02

APN type: default,supl

APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6

APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6

Everything else is either in "not set", "unspecified" or "none". The device is connected to T-Mobile. And I do have the roaming activated. Even, if I turn off the wifi there is a 4G label on top of the screen. In my "Mein Vodafone" app I still have 691 MB for "Im Inland" data and the 500 MB for "Im Ausland" data. But web pages seem to never load. I would greatly appreciate if you could help me on this one.

Hi Jorge,

thanks for the attached screenshot.

The part under "Im Ausland" can be translated with "Highspeed-volume in Turkey" thats why I'd like to check the booked roaming options for your SIM.

Please send me a PN with your mobile number and your customer password.

Thanks in advance

Dave

Hi Dave,

I already sent you a PN with my phone number. By the way, this was the SMS I got as soon as I landed:

"Du bist in der USA oder in Kanada und willst im Internet surfen oder Deine Apps nutzen? Dann hol Dir 500 MB für 9,99 Euro. Das Datenvolumen gilt 4 Wochen in USA/CAN - ohne Abo. Schick zum Buchen eine SMS mit 6565 an die 224466. Weiteren Nachrichten kannst Du jederzeit widersprechen. Freundliche Grüße, Dein Vodafone-Team."

And this is the SMS I got after booking it:

"Lieber Kunde, Ihr/Ihre Türkei/USA/CAN 500 MB ist jetzt gebucht und bis zum 02.12.2018 gültig. Viele Grüße, Ihr Service-Team."

Kind regards,

Jorge

Hi Jorge,

thanks for your PN. I can say that the booked roaming option is fine. It includes data in Turkey, the US and Canada. I think US and Canada is just not displayed in the MeinVodafone app.

I guess using data was not a problem when you where in germany? Judging from your connections before i guess you were able to use the internet. In this case the problem can not be related to the APN settings.

There is one thing which is confusing to me:

I googled your phone and found out that the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus only supports the LTE frequency bands 1,3,5,7 and 8.

As far as i know T-Mobile US uses the LTE bands 2,4,12 and 66. Smiley (traurig)

I can see that you are conncted to 4G but can you please try to switch your phone to 3G?

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

my phone keeps telling me I'm connected to 4G even when I change it to 3G. I also tried 2G (the 4G label is no longer there) but it didn't work either. And yeah, I did activate the roaming. Any more ideas?

Thanks again,
Jorge

Hi,
can you try to connect to another network provider? Do you use a dual SIM phone and tried the other sim slot?

Hello Phonophobia,

I just left the US. And yeah, I did try different network providers but it never worked.

Now I know I cannot trust Vodafone abroad. Thanks for your interest though.
