Cable internet tariff change

Hello,

I have a couple of questions regarding changing my tariff plan. My current tariff is Red Internet & Phone 200 Cable with Fritz!Box 6490 (booked as an option, for which I pay 5 EUR/m). I am considering an upgrade to Red Internet & Phone 400 Cable with switching to the newest Fritz!Box 6591.

So, my questions are:

1. How does the routers switching work? Does Vodafone send me the new router, then I connect it, and then send the old router back?

2. I know that I should have kept the box in which I received my current (6490) router, so I could mail it back to Vodafone when the time comes, but this was 5 years ago... and I looked all over my appartment, unfortunately with no success. Will the fact, that I don't have the packaging box of the router complicate the routers exchange?

Many thanks in advance. I am also very thankful, for everybody that will cope with my English. I have German knowledge, but it's rather limited at this point.

Cheers

Hi Stayko,

simply put the router and accessories in a box and then back to us.

The FritzBox 6490 is capable for plans of up to 500 MBit/s - so there is no change needed if you upgrade your contract to the 400 MBit/s plan.

If you want to switch to the 6591, you have to pay 6,99 € per month for the FritzBox (instead of 4,99 € now) -and- have a one-time replacement fee of 29,99 €.

And yes, if you switch from the "old" 6490 to the 6591, you get a parcel with the 6591, unbox it and immediately send back the "old" 6490 in the 6490 box. Not sure if they will also accept the 6490 without its box. But do NOT use the box of the 6591 as this will mix up things.

Hello @reneromann,

And huge thanks for your answer! I know that the 6490 router is capable of handling that speed, but I really want to upgrade to 6591, since it provides a better coverage. My appartment is quite big, I have some (not many, but still) dead spots, although I also have a Fritz Repeater. I may also switch to a gigabit at some point, so I wanna be prepared. The 2 EUR on top are not an issue.

On the other hand, when you upgrade your contract, the service fee of 29,99 EUR doesn't apply (I already checked that), so I just wanted to do that alltogether.

You're confirming my concerns about the box unfortunately. 😞 I would wait for an answer from a Vodafone agent, and I promice to keep the box from the 6591 safe this time. 🙂

Cheers!

Hi Stayko,

@reneromann could already answer your questions. The matter with the packaging is still open. But you don't have to worry about that. Just because the box is missing, there will be no problems with the exchange.

Hi @Thomas,

And thanks for your reply! I am sure that there won't be any issues with the missing box, I just need to know how should I mail the old router in this case.
