Contract cancellation/transfer with a twist, can anyone help?

First, a friend has kindly allowed me to use their forum account to post this question form their computer, so the issue doesn't refer to the account being used to type the question, sorry if that's confusing!

 

My issue is that my internet contract in my apartment is not owned by me but the previous occupant. He has sinced moved to another country and I have been forwarding him the money shown on the bill while I awaited the signed transfer contract from him so put the account in my name. It took a while to receive and I am now in a situation where I will leave the country for a new job and need to cancel the account.

 

A helpful employee at the Vodafone store told me I could cancel if I get the cancellation form and the account holder's abmeldung document and send it to them, but I am not sure if he has this document anymore. I know it's technically his responsibility since it is his account but I wondered if anyone could answer if I would be charged any fees to transfer the account to me and then immediately cancel? The store employee said cancellation was free with the abmeldung but I didn't know if this applied to a completely new contract.

If any mods are reading this and are able to help, I can provide all the needed details and signed forms, I just want to know the smoothest and fastest way to resolve the contract problem. Thanks to anyone who can help in advance 🙂

The current contract holder must prove that he is moving abroad.

 

Please send me the customer data and the customer password and I will have a look at that.
