Using my Own router with Fiber Optic internet

Hi!

I recently got a fiber optic contract from Vodafone and I decided to get a fiber optic modem and using my own router which is a GLiNet Fint2, I already did all the steps for installing the fiber optic modem and it's LED is green without blinking.

But about the router I don't know how can I make the connection, I tested the DHCP protocol, PPPoE with the username and password sent to me and with the different VLAN IDs but they were not successful.

could you please help me with that? is there any specific configuration I can do on my router?

and another question, does Vodafone fiber optic modem has any admin panel which I can check something from there? how can I be sure everything is correct on the modem?

Thanks!

if DS-Lite is needed for your connection, you have to install the openwrt package first

https://openwrt.org/packages/pkgdata/ds-lite

maybe @Kurtler can answer if needed for Vodafone fiber optic internet connection

DS-Lite is the standard operating practice for most consumer connections from Vodafone right now, no matter if it's DSL, Cable or Fiber Optics.

And yes, if you would try to open a PPPoE connection trying to aquire an IPv4 address on a DualStack-Lite configured line, you will get an error in authentication (whereas the error message itself is misleading - it should be "error in configuration" and not "error in authentication").

So - you need to set up your router to use DualStack-Lite...

Thanks, I installed this package and it needs "DS-Lite AFTR address" which I don't have any clue to what I should put there. could you please help me with that?

set to obtain automaticly

I tried different ways but I couldn't find anyway in OpenWrt to set it automatically. could you please give me some instructions or documentation to help me to do it?

Also I asked ChatGPT and it tells Vodafone should give me the address, I called their support but they didn't help me about that and just suggested to buy one of their routers :((

Buy a Fritzbox 4060 and it will work without any problems. I have too. I have fiber optic with fiber optic modem from Telekom, but that doesn't matter.

FRITZ!Box am Vodafone-Glasfaseranschluss einrichten | FRITZ!Box 4060

The 4060 is ideal for fiber optic connections, with fiber optic modem.

Best Regards Kurt

Sorry to say, but if you are unable to set up your router by yourself, you might need to contact professionals to do it for you (on your expenses). It's not up to us or to Vodafone to provide you with instructions or documentation, but on the manufacturer of the device!

ChatGPT won't help you - and the answer is simply wrong.

The details on how it works are explained in the technical documenation for manufacturers which was published by Vodafone.

And simply said, your router will get all the needed information for the AFTR gateways address from the DHCPv6 server - if it is correctly set up and follows the interface specification published by Vodafone (as well as RFC 6333 and RFC 6334).

So if you are unable to set up your router correctly, you will need to seek out for professional help (on you expenses) -or- you will need to buy a compatible router (as many retail FritzBoxes are) -or- you need to rent a router from Vodafone...
