PIN and PUK Lost – What Happens Next

Your phone is protected by two security codes: the 4-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) and the 8-digit PUK (Personal Unblocking Key). Both are necessary to unlock your SIM card. When you sign your phone contract, you’ll receive a new SIM card and a letter with important information, including your PIN and PUK, a few days later.

Check Your Code in the MyVodafone App

Can't find our letter anymore? No worries, you can easily check your PUK in the MyVodafone app:

  1. Open the MyVodafone app.
  2. Click on "My Data."
  3. Under "My Phone & Card," you’ll find your PUK.

Use your PUK to unlock your SIM card. After that, you can set a new PIN. The process differs between iOS and Android devices.

How It Works on iOS:

  1. Open your settings.
  2. Go to "Mobile Network."
  3. Click on "SIM PIN."
  4. Set your new SIM PIN.

How It Works on Android:

  1. Open your settings.
  2. Go to "Security."
  3. Click on "SIM Card Lock" (sometimes this option is listed under "Other Security Settings").
  4. Set your new SIM PIN.

You Can Use Your Phone Without a SIM Card

As you can see, you can always find your PUK in the MyVodafone app. Another piece of good news: You can still use your phone even with a locked SIM card, though with some limitations. You won’t be able to make calls or send texts, but you can surf the web and use apps as usual when your phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

SIM Card vs. eSIM

In addition to the classic SIM card, there’s also the eSIM. Both security codes are automatically activated. Thinking about switching to an eSIM? Great! With an eSIM, you can live more sustainably and securely. Your phone is automatically encrypted with an eSIM, it cannot be stolen, and your phone remains protected.
