I've done the abmeldung and cancellation by phone last month, together with sending the router back to the address but I've recently received an e-mail from Vodafone saying my contract will end 16/08/2019.

Hi rke,
as I could see you already send us all necessary documents on 04.10.2018. According to German law I was able to shorten your cancellation to 02.01.2019.

maybe you've a good friend, than let him/her translate the "AGB" of your contract in your language;
you have cancel the contract from vodafone only in TEXT form.
AGB 10.4 Die Kündigung muss unter Angabe der Kundennummer in Textform erfolgen.
You have (than, not now) the same costs for your contract, up to the end, without services from Vodafone.
Better, a moderator is looking over your contract

@Mortuus: Wenn man nicht mal "Hi!" richtig schreiben kann, dann sollte man die Finger von Antworten auf Englisch ganz bleiben lassen. Ist besser.
