Requested cable while there is another connection present

Hi,

Apologies for asking in English but my German skills are not up to par for this question.

I live in an apartment that has an existing cable connection with another internet company in my roommates name. As he is leaving the country, he requested the cancellation which will be effective 1 month after his abmeldung this month.

I have requested my new connection in Vodafone, which is also by Kabel, so I'm wondering if I need to do something else to make sure it works while the other connection is still present.

During the registration process, I have been asked if I had another connection to my name and I replied no, because it's in my roommate's name, but now I'm wondering if I should have said yes? Do I need to do something so that my Vodafone Kabel connection takes precedence over my previous company? Or is it installing the new router enough?

Router is being delivered this Friday, so I still have some time until I can try.
