wifi 5 GHz problem with MacBook Air

I have Compal CH7466CE cable modem

Internet 200 Mbit/s

wifi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz both running

with 2.4 GHz all run good

with 5 GHz MacBook Air see the network, but has a speed of 3 Mbit/s (channel 120)

inspecting what is attached at the network with the cable modem, MacBook Air does not result in

Using a PC no problem

Anybody noting a similar behaviour?

Forcing channel 40 speed become top but still MacBook Air is not depicted as attached by cable modem

do the 2.4 Ghz and the 5Ghz network use the same name and password?

I just now set 2.4 and 5 GHz SSID equal in my CH7466CE running Firmware version 4.50.21.4

I attached PC, Mac, iPad, mobile phones.

I attached them in front of the modem so they well see 5 GHz.

Going to Router » Basic » My Network, no more than 1 device is depicted attached to 5 GHz.

If I move my mobile phone to another room, then it is depicted as attached to 2.4 GHz (it autonomously change frequency because signal at 5 GHz is weaker than 2.4 GHz, this is right behaviour) together another device that can only be camped there, at the same time another device pop up as attached to 5 GHz

Considering that devices not depicted in Router » Basic » My Network are still working using wifi means that modem has bug.

Hello medicol,

we know that sometimes not all devices are displayed in the device overview, although they are connected via W-LAN.

This will be fixed with one of the next software updates. Now the question is still open, if your MacBook can connect again or not.

@Martin59 at this moment MacBook can connect to Wifi 5 GHz

Please be aware: at 5 GHz only 1 device and no more than 1 is displayed

I keep now only one SSID

So that I wait fw update

anyway:

MacBook at 5 GHz sometimes I must turn off / turn on wifi otherwise stay stuck

the same for mobile phones

definitivly this Compal FW is full of bugs

today 24.12.2020 modem restarted 2 times, I do not know the reason.

To get access then must turn off/ turn on my android mobile phone

this firmware is totally bad

In order to have a better stable wifi connection I turned off 5 GHz.

I connect to it with my Windows 10 PC via 2.4 GHz and

then Wifi -> Channel Map

PC lost Wifi Connection

I tried 2 times and same result

did you do a factory reset already? Can you check the 5GHz WiFi with your PC? What speed do you get there? How far away are your devices from the router?

if I get connected with my PC to 5 GHz I get normally 200 Mbit/s as per contract

with MacBook sometimes with 5 GHz less than 1 Mbit/s

In both case I am in front of modem at 3 meter distance

No, I did not try any factory reset, also because then I loose all my setting concerning the network

Anyway I can do it if you ask me to do it, let me know please

@Martin59 I received a newest modem, Technicolor, it has also the steering option to be set up. I truly appreciate it.

Till now it seems better and MacBook Air is connecting good at 5 GHz, BTW I steered it at 5 GHz to extensivly test.

I keep reporting for sure
