Contract Cancellation - leaving Germany

Dear all,

Apologies for writing in English but my German is a bit limited.

I was an Erasmus student on placement in Munich from July 2017 to July 2018. I moved out of Germany in July and am now living back in France. I did the Abmeldung paperworks before leaving. I therefore wish to cancel my mobile phone contract as I no longer live in Germany and also wish to close my German bank account.

I tried sending a cancelletation letter with my Abmeldung to Vodafone Customer Service but I got a reply saying that my contract will only be cancelled after 24 months. I was therefore confused as there are a lot of people on this forum who were able to cancel their contracts earlier because they were leaving the country.

I also asked the sales representative in the Vodafone shop when I was buying the contract whether it could be cancelled earlier with the Abmeldung and the answer was "Yes".

Could anyone please help?

leaving Germany is no adequate reason for canceling a mobile contract. I´m very sorry if you got a wrong information in our shop.
